2018 Tanabata Poster Entries
-The koi symbolizes the western army in the battle of Sekigahara, it represents the West due to them having the territory of the biggest lake in Japan.
-The green pheasant represents the eastern army, because that's where they flock.
-These two animals were also chosen because the green pheasant is the national bird of Japan, and the Koi is the national fish
-The cross represents Catholicism fading out the shongunate (the battle of Sekigahara which solidified Tokugawa shogunate)
-Lastly the Ussuri brown bear represents Amakusa Shiro, because bears are seen as courageous, bears are also seen as shamans, which also represents religion and spirituality
